Cullen Thurston is a Boston-based film photographer that specializes in landscape photography, as well as portraiture. Enrolling in a photography class in his freshman year at Belmont High School, Cullen took a keen interest into film photography. Learning how to create a composition through the lens as well as developing film laid the groundwork for his photography skills. After a hiatus during high school, Cullen picked up film photography again while studying at Northeastern Oakland on the Mills College Campus, where a film developing studio was made accessible to him. Also studying at Northeastern London, Cullen travelled around Europe extensively, documenting the different beauties of each location’s landscapes and communities. Majoring in Environmental Science at Northeastern motivated him to document and highlight the beauty of both the natural world as well as the urbanized world, showing the dichotomy between the two landscapes. Everything found in his portfolio was shot on 35mm film using a Pentax K1000 camera.
